Prometheus review

By Kate Rodger

Planet Earth, circa the end of this century, and two scientists make an important discovery.

That discovery takes them both to the far ends of the universe aboard the ship Prometheus, in search of some big answers to some big questions.

What they find is certainly big, but not quite what they were expecting.

Sir Ridley Scott has gathered a fine cast about him for his mission back into his alien universe.

Michael Fassbender is a stand out once again as the pivotal character of David, the mission's resident robot.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo's Noomi Rapace takes on the lead roll of believer Elizabeth Shaw, Charlize Theron is the ice queen Meredith Vickers, with her murky agenda, and both are excellent.

So did Prometheus live up to the legend for me? Not quite.

Was it a compelling big screen event? Yes it was.

The film falters with it's story which throws up too many unanswered questions, with a few too many ‘wtf?’ moments, and it certainly lacked the fright factor of alien. It's too bulky and unweildy, trying to do too much and losing its way as a result.

But the cinematic experience itself, thanks to the epic nature of the sets, the overall tone and feel, plus several awesomely memorable icky Alien'esque scenes makes Prometheus un-missable on the big screen.

It’s definitely worth forking out the extra for 3D too.

Four stars.
