It's a pub crawl with a difference, starting at breakfast time in Hawera, riders visit nine local pubs along the route - working off a few calories along the way.
Many are regulars at the annual event and the damp weather didn't keep them away.
A high police presence kept an eye on revellers, with officers brought in from around the region.
Riders were warned to wear safety helmets or face a $55 instant fine.
With a special cycle lane laid along State Highway 3, the only "cars" there were being pushed or driven by pedal power.
Police says it's not illegal to drink and cycle but remain concerned for the safety of intoxicated cyclists.
"Purely the sheer numbers and safety of all those involved particularly with alcohol and on a State Highway and other motorists using the road," says Rural Area Commander, Inspector Frank Grant.
Police want someone to step forward and take responsibility for the annual event if it's to continue.
"Well I certainly wouldn't lose any sleep if it didn't happen and I wouldn't have to require staff from outside the area to assist, and they could be deployed to other activities," says Inspector Grant.
But riders insist the pub crawl's not just about the drinking and expect to be back here next December, with or without the blessing of the Police.
