A 4.5-magnitude earthquake centred in Nelson Lakes National Park has shaken the West Coast.
The quake, centred 30km southeast of Murchison at a depth of 9km, struck at 11.56am, GNS Science says.
It was felt along the West Coast, including in Westport, Greymouth, Murchison and St Arnaud.
Murchison was the location of one of the country's largest quakes, measuring 7.8, in 1929.
That quake killed 17 and caused widespread damage on the West Coast and around Nelson.
