RWC stops Boobs on Bikes

Sat, 10 Sep 2011 3:32p.m.

Auckland’s infamous Boobs on Bikes event has been cancelled for 2011.

Organiser and New Zealand porn industry heavyweight Steve Crow says the tide of public opinion is most definitely against the event.

“Holding this even at the date and time proposed due to the ‘family nature’ of the big rugby thingy that is happening all over New Zealand at this time,” says Mr Crow.

The parade sees a succession of vehicles adorned with women in varying degrees of nudity drive down Queen Street, with guffawing male adolescents and bemused bystanders as the footpath audience.

He says a recent online poll shows 68 percent of people are against the parade going ahead.

“So, and in keeping with our longstanding belief in democracy, as much as it pains us to do so, we are cancelling the NZX Rugby D-Cup Boobs On Bikes.”

However, Boobs on Bikes were advised by they Auckland Council they can find no reason to deny a permit.

Mr Crow says, from a legal perspective, they are all go but adding, “not that we have ever cared about permits anyway”.

It's unbelievable that Auckland Council say "they can find no reason to deny a permit" for such an event in a public place! There are heaps of obvious reasons, and what about the public opinion that Mr Crow himself admitted was most definitely against the event? Auckland Council does not appear to reflect or respect the majority opinion of the people who actually live, work and pay their rates here.
