Aaron Eckhart and Nicole Kidman in Rabbit Hole

Aaron Eckhart and Nicole Kidman in Rabbit Hole

By Kate Rodger

Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhart are Becca and Howie, a couple reeling from the recent loss of their young son, both struggling with their grief in very different ways.

Kidman’s character Becca is the main focus of the story, she’s both fragile and detached, her grief alienating those she loves.

She keeps her husband at arms length, so when we see her reaching out to a teenage boy, we’re unsure of her motivations.

As the story layers are slowly peeled back, the emotional journey of this couple becomes more and more compelling, as we care more and more about their fate.

Rabbit Hole is no walk in the park. It’s a draining and harrowing story of the impact grief has on the relationships of those involved.

Kidman and Eckhart are the driving forces, well cast and well directed.

You’ll obviously need to be emotionally prepared, but this is a rewarding watch if you are.

Four stars.
