Radiohead released their 8th album worldwide today, along with a special edition newspaper called The Universal Sigh.

The new album, The King of Limbs, was released on CD, vinyl and on iTunes at midday Monday (NZT) – and the first 150 customers received the newspaper free at Real Groovy in Auckland.

3 News managed to score a copy of the limited edition paper, which contains different pieces of artwork and writings by Robert MacFarlane, Jay Griffiths and Stanley Donwood.

Over 100 people queued outside Real Groovy on Queen St, but no fan was more committed than 16-year-old Epsom Girls student Kartika Bhaskaran, who “took a holiday” from school and waited outside the store from 8am.

“I’m a massive fan,” she told 3 News. “Radiohead has completely changed my life; they have opened me up to all sorts of things I thought couldn’t exist.”

The proud owner of all Radiohead’s previous albums, Ms Bhaskaran was particularly excited about getting her hands on the newspaper, but said she “didn’t know too much” about what was inside.

Customers lucky enough to get their hands on The Universal Sigh had their photo taken which will appear on the band’s website, and were also handed a unique code and told to visit www.theuniversalsigh.com.
