A campaign to get Rage Against the Machine's 1992 classic 'Killing In The Name' to the #1 spot on the UK singles chart is, so far, working.

Early figures show the expletive-filled song is beating X-Factor winner Joe McElreddy's 'The Climb', a cover of a Miley Cyrus tune, and is currently the #1 song on iTunes and Amazon.co.uk.

X-Factor winners have claimed the Christmas #1 spot for the past four years. McElreddy's sales are expected to skyrocket in the next couple of days however, as a CD single is due to hit shops tomorrow.

Simon Cowell, the man behind the talent show, says he is confident 'The Climb' will climb, and that he has already had a "a glass of champagne or two" to celebrate.

Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello has joined the fray, twittering "England! Now is your time!" when he heard about the battle.

The winner will be announced on December 20.
