Farmers wait for elusive rain

Farmers desperately need rain

Today a drought was officially declared in Northland, but what farmers really need is rain.

Unfortunately though, no precipitation of significant value is on the horizon.

A low just off the Northland coast should produce some light isolated showers there tomorrow, but then it heads off to the East Cape, and that's about it for the next week.

A 10-day computer-generated outlook from MetService suggests some light rain's possible about a week from now, however any forecast more than four days ahead is fraught with uncertainty.
