Rare footage of The Beatles' first ever American concert is set for a limited screening in US theatres.
The Fab Four were introduced to Stateside audiences with a slot on The Ed Sullivan Show in February, 1964 and two days later they played their first live gig at the Washington Coliseum in Washington, DC.
Film clips from the 30-minute set were thought to have gone missing soon after the show, but executives at Screenvision recently discovered the original masters and restored the tapes for inclusion in new documentary The Beatles: The Lost Concert.
In the footage, Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Ringo Starr and George Harrison perform tracks such as ‘She Loves You’ and ‘Twist and Shout’. The film also includes an interview with legendary guitarist Chuck Berry.
The Beatles: The Lost Concert will premiere in New York on 6 May before being released to select cinemas across the US on 17 and 22 May.
