The National Real Estate Auctioneering Championship wrapped up this afternoon, with four finalists battling it out to become the best in the business.

Last night 28 hopefuls were cut down to just four finalists in the senior division and today, each had just 15 minutes to strut their stuff.

The aim was to sell a plush multi-million dollar property in Kohimarama, in front of a crowded room of industry peers and six judges at the Ellerslie Convention Centre.

Difficult scenarios are role-played from a script and each auctioneer is judged on their dealings with the same dramatisation.

“We can throw curve balls at the like difficult numbers, words they can trip up on,” says chief judge Ross Foreman.

Last year’s title holder, Phil McGoldrick went on to win the Australasian prize.

He isn’t competing this year, instead investing 25 years of experience into future talent.

Mr McGoldrick says he can spot a good one.

“He has to be a little flamboyant, there has to be a bit of aggression – but you can’t be aggressive,” he says.

Those are qualities that Chris Kennedy had on the day.

Walking away with the New Zealand title, Mr Kennedy has a shot at the Australasian champs in September.
