Chris Mathers in his Granddad's shed

Chris Mathers in his Granddad's shed

When Chris Mathers sold his Wellington home recently, instead of leaving memories behind, he took them with him.

Four generations of Chris’ family had lived in the Lyall Bay house and when Chris was packing up he realised the basement workshop – which once belonged to his grandfather Bill Hendry – was something special.

So Chris dismantled the basement, photographed it, labelled everything and moved it all to his new house, where he put it back together exactly as it was.

Same basement, different house.
