The Red Hot Chili Peppers will play Auckland’s Vector Arena in January 2013.

The Grammy award winning ‘Give It Away’ hitmakers are performing the New Zealand show ahead of their headlining slot at Australia’s Big Day Out.

Other acts that form the Big Day Out line-up include The Killers, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Vampire Weekend, Band of Horses, Animal Collective, Sleigh Bells, Childish Gambino and Kiwis Avalanche City.

It will be the first year since 1998 that New Zealand has not been included on the Big Day Out circuit.

Next year's  Red Hot Chili Peppers tour will be the band's first with new guitarist Josh Klinghoffer.

Their Vector Arena show takes place on January 14. Ticket details have not yet been released.
