A Christchurch man has invented a computer mouse he hopes will revolutionise the way people use laptops.
The wireless mouse is smaller than a conventional mouse and said to be more comfortable than a laptop touchpad.
Its inventor has orders from the US, Russia and Japan even before it's officially launched; it is a tiny wireless mouse for a laptop that eliminates the need for a frustrating touchpad.
“It came out of my own frustration of using a touch pad and we know that mice are generally or they are faster than a touchpad,” says inventor Grant Odgers.
Mr Odgers has been developing his mouse for five years, doing thousands of tests and trials to get it right.
The Swiftpoint mouse uses a pen like grip, it charges on the back of any computer and is mainly aimed at people using laptops on their lap, in bed or on a plane. But it's up against some big guns, like Logitech.
“They make two million mice a week so it' s a big market and you really need something unique to compete so I think we do have something very unique,” says Mr Odgers.
The product has not been officially launched but already has hundreds of orders from overseas and generated a huge amount of interest.
Mr Odgers is convinced his mouse will revolutionise the way the world uses laptops.
“We would like to see it as the standard mouse to use on a laptop,” says Mr Odgers.
The mice are made in Thailand and retail online for around a hundred dollars. Sales, like Grant Odgers' bank account, are expected to grow rapidly.
