Rihanna refused to see a therapist after her February assault at the hands of ex-boyfriend Chris Brown - insisting she was raised to "figure it out and move on" alone.

Brown was sentenced to five years probation and community service as a result of a violent bust-up with the star nine months ago. He was also ordered to stay away from the Bajan beauty for the duration of his punishment.

The 'Umbrella' hitmaker went into hiding in the aftermath of the attack but is finally back on the music scene with a new album.

After taking time off, the star insists she will not seek professional help to get over her emotional trauma.

She tells the New York Times, “Everyone wanted me to see a therapist to just talk about it, and I refused. In Barbados we don’t do that. We keep it in our family, and figure it out and move on. I just put my game face on and went on with my life."

Not a smart move on Rihanna's part. I worked in DV for 5 years in ATL and the recidivism rate for future abusive relationship is high for victims who don't attach themselves to a support group or therapy to deal with the issue. I hope it's not true for her but Halle Berry said she kept getting into unhealthy relationships until she started to work on herself.
