Ring-a-ding-ding!

Tue, 07 Jul 2009 12:00a.m.

Ring-a-ding-ding used to remind me of our son's toy cellphone.  You only had to hear it once or twice and the little tune was stuck in your head all day.

Fortunately, ring-a ding-ding now reminds me of my beautiful wedding ring, safely tucked away in the Michael Hill Jeweller box in FH's top draw.

Yup, I took the plunge and bought my wedding ring!

I picked it up on Friday after getting it sized, and it took all of my strength to not pop it on my finger then and there!

I also made another wedding-related purchase this week – my wedding shoes!

I'd had a sneaky look at No. 1 Shoes last week, and spotted some cute apple green shoes.  I tried them on and they were perfect!  Perfect heel height and width (I'm completely useless when it comes to wearing heels, especially stilettos), and perfect colour – what are the chances!

And at less than $30, perfect price as well.  Of course I did the dutiful thing and slept on it overnight, but went back and bought them on Monday.

I'm not sure that FH was convinced however. His reaction “I thought you were supposed to wear white shoes”!  Well not in this day and age pal!

In fact I know of plenty of brides and brides to be who have worn or are planning on wearing shoes that match their bridesmaids dresses.  I actually think its kinda cool, and a wee bit different too, and I'm sure green shoes are more likely to pulled out of the wardrobe and worn again!

Speaking of bridesmaids, I think we've got a challenge on our hands when it comes to finding the perfect colour for their dresses.

Me and my sister had a quick squiz at a store in Petone that stocks a good range of bridesmaid dresses, but there wasn't a colour even close to what I have pictured in my head.  I'm still holding out hope that we can find something ready made when the spring/summer stocks come in, but I don't fancy our chances.

That means we'll probably need to go down the dressmaker route, although I am exploring a few other avenues in the meantime.

Maybe the perfect dress and colour will pop up online somewhere, for a fantastic price of course!

6 months, 3 weeks and 2 days to go (not that I'm counting)!

Bargain Bride - Wendy B

I'm a 24 year old Wellingtonian preparing to marry my partner in crime on 30 Jan 2010.  In 2008 we got engaged, bought our first house and had our first child.  Instead of having 2009 off to recover, we're throwing ourselves head-first into wedding planning!  Did I mention we're trying to do it all for under 10K!?

Hi Wendy, I'm getting married at Sudbury Fields a couple of weeks after you. Was wondering if you'd made any progress on whether you'll be hiring a bus or not? It's something I've been deliberating over a lot.
