Road worker hit by van

A 57-year-old road worker has been seriously injured after a van hit her as she operated a stop-go sign in the Bay of Plenty this morning.

The local woman was working on State Highway 35, about 66km northeast of Opotiki, when she was struck by the van.

She received serious facial, abdominal and leg injuries and was stabilised at the scene before being flown by rescue helicopter to Tauranga Hospital.
