Robyn - female and straight

For three years Swedish pop star Robyn had an identity crisis when she was a teen - her teachers thought she was a boy.

Her name and short-haired look made it difficult for the 'With Every Heartbeat' singer to convince others she was a girl - and her mother had to write to her school to correct one teacher.

Robyn says, "My handicrafts teacher thought I was a boy for three years. I tried to tell her I was a girl, but she'd say, 'My little boy wanted to be a girl when he was a kid, too.'

"Finally, my mum had to write her a note that said, 'Please don't assume that Robyn is a boy anymore because she's a girl'."

And the mistaken identity issue is still one that lingers - especially in America, where Robyn is touring with Katy Perry this summer.

She tells Out magazine, "I get mistaken for a lesbian all the time - but I guess I do have the most lesbian haircut of any of the girls in my field."
