ACT leader Rodney Hide is considering moving to Wellington with fiancee Louise Crome because the couple are to have a baby.

Mr Hide, 53, and Ms Crome, 32, a retired squash player, are to marry in December. The baby is due at the end of March.

"We are over the moon excited," Mr Hide told NZPA. "It just ends the year on a high note."

Mr Hide is MP for Epsom and Minister for Local Government.

"I try and spend as much time at home as I can work allowing...we are actually thinking because of the nature of my job we might locate to Wellington because we figure that it might more likely that I am in Wellington."

He said they hadn't decided whether to move and if it would be permanent but he confirmed he had bought a house in Wellington.

Ms Crome has just finished an MBA and may work during the pregnancy.

Mr Hide has a son, 21, who lives in Hong Kong.
