An experienced Antarctic traveller says a rogue sailor who appears to be heading for the South Pole could be putting himself in real danger.

Norwegian national Jarle Andhoy made a similar ill-fated journey to the Antarctic in February, which cost three crew members their lives.

It's believed that Mr Andhoy is now piloting the 54-foot Auckland super yacht Nilaya.

Steve Wellmeier of the Antarctic Tour Operators Association told James Coleman that the journey is especially difficult at this time of year.

Ships in the Southern Ocean, are being asked to keep an eye out for the yacht.
