Former BlackCaps skipper Ross Taylor is back playing cricket this Thursday when he turns out for his provincial side, Central Districts.

The Plunket Sheild match will be the former captain’s first cricket since he lost the national captaincy last month.

Central coach Alan Hunt told Fairfax Media he is happy to have a world-class back in the mix.

"I'm pleased to have him. We can help him get back on the cricket horse and get on with it," Hunt said.

The match is in Napier starting on Thursday.
