A team of four rowers, who had hoped to be in Auckland by today, have sent their rendition of The Twelve Days of Christmas from their boat situated in the Tasman Sea.
Nigel Cherrie, Martin Berka, James Blake and Andrew McCowan set off from the Sydney Harbour Bridge on November 27, headed for the Auckland Harbour Bridge and hoping to break the 31-day record.
Team Gallagher may have been affected by cabin fever onboard Moana, or good ol’ Christmas cheer – perhaps a bit of both.
They have sent a lovely Christmas message and personalised version of the festive season classic.
Posting updates on Localist.co.nz, the team say they are continuing with the “tango”.
The satellite map tracking the crew’s progress shows they have been going around in circles. They are just above Cape Reinga's latitude, just over the half-way mark towards New Zealand.
“The crew have a 25 knot easterly which is exactly the opposite of what is sought,” reads the update.
Indeed, the crew sings for a “much needed westerly”.
