Swedish pop stars Roxette have called off a concert in New Zealand after guitarist Per Gessle fell ill.

The duo was set to perform at the Vector Arena in Auckland on Saturday but they've called off the gig after Gessle came down with a mystery illness during a flight from Sweden.

He has since been told to rest for the next few days so he can continue with the tour.

Staff at promoters Live Nation were unable to schedule an alternative date for the performance, which was the only New Zealand date on Roxette's current tour.

The band is due to perform in Brisbane, Australia on Tuesday.

Actually you're wrong. If you look at 95% of Roxette songs you will see that "WORDS AND MUSIC BY PER GESSLE."

He's not the guitarist for Christs sake. He takes just as much of the lead vocals as Marie and writes all the songs. Media in New Zealand constantly misreport about this band and having been a fan for a long time it irks me. It cant be that hard to do a little bit of research. Sure Per does play guitar from time to time but Christopher would be considered the main guitarist at the moment. THe last mistake I saw in the herald was msitaking their album Crash Boom Bang for Boom Crash Bang. Its named after an Elvis lyric. Roxette are a duo with a backing band. Marie Fredriksson is only one half of it. Per kicks ass too!!!
