A doctor who cut a rugby player's lip as part of an injury cover-up has been cleared to resume practicing medicine.

Dr. Wendy Chapman cut Harlequins winger Tom Williams to mask his use of a fake blood capsule that allowed a so-called blood replacement to be brought on in a 2009 Heineken Cup quarterfinal.

A General Medical Council disciplinary panel ruled Tuesday that Chapman's fitness to practice was not impaired despite her actions, which it said were not in the best interests of her patient.

Williams' supposed injury meant a specialist goal kicker could come on to the pitch for Harlequins in the closing minutes of the match against Leinster, which held on to win 6-5.
