Rugby player assaulted in Timaru

3News NZ

An East Coast rugby player was attacked outside a nightclub in Timaru early this morning.

Ben Parks, 23, was out drinking after playing against South Canterbury when the altercation happened at around 3am.

He was transferred to Christchurch Hospital this morning, after suffering what police described as "reasonably serious" facial injuries.

Coach Ngarimu Simpkins told Fairfax Media it was a “season-ending injury”.

Police are still looking for the attacker and say CCTV footage has been obtained.
