Alex Asher is attempting the equivalent of 57 marathons in a row

For many people, running a marathon is a once in a life time achievement. Today 26-year-old Alex Asher will finish the equivalent of 57 marathons back to back in 63 days.

Asher set off from Wellington's Days Bay this morning. The final leg of a run which began two months ago at Cape Reinga.

He's kept to the coastline as much as possible, even taking to the ocean when he had to.

“I had some injury problems in the first two weeks and I really struggled to deal with it, I couldn't even really walk, I was like is this me, am I out, and I actually got swimming and ended up swimming all of Green Bay, 26k's in two days,” he says.

Asher's onto his fifth pair of shoes, has drunk about 189 litres of water and is aiming to raise $12,000 for two charities, Sustainable Coastlines and Forest and Bird.
