There is no doubt Ryan Gosling is a charming man.

Just look at him. Listen to him. Amazing.

He fell in love with New Zealand while filming Young Hercules.

He played Young Hercules.

Gosling then shot to fame with The Notebook and then made a movie even more depressing called Blue Valentine.

“I was pretty stressed out after [Blue Valentine]… also I was fat and bored and feeling pretty bad, and I went to the doctor and he wrote a prescription and it just said: ‘do a comedy’.”

That comedy is Crazy, Stupid, Love, a film starring Steve Carrell.

Gosling says it was all quite surreal, because his first ever job in Hollywood was on a pilot about superheroes…with Carrell.

“It was the first time I’d worked with someone where he was so funny it was a problem. It was disruptive and couldn't get through scenes. This boom guy had a laughing fit and dropped his boom,” he says.

It sounded divine. Screw Crazy, Stupid, Love, I wanted to know more.

“It was so good… He would work with Tim Curry and Carrell was his sidekick. They were angry superman had written a tell-all book but hadn't included them, and superman was coming to their bookstore they owned and they were finally going to find a way to finally get superman.”

Before coming back to New Zealand I told Gosling he needed to make it happen.

In the meantime, you can watch Gosling and Carrell cavort in Crazy, Stupid, Love.
