I come from Sri Lanka and I have seen how bad they treat captured elephants in those countries. I guess Mr Hans has not seen what real cruelty is.
I say the elephants will be treated better in New Zealand than in Sri Lanka. Its good for Burma to have some company like we all do.

I think that Burma should have her own breeding herd because she needs to be with her own kind.I know it may cost more money and time than sending her somewhere but think about the history that Burma has at the zoo and it may be a bit depessing for her to get used to new surroundings somewhere else and may cause a lot of stress, even with other elephants.I may not be an expert only being eleven but Im not just sticking with my opinion because thats natural but im sticking with my opinion because its not going to cause stress and loneliness to the Animal.

Why make a whole family of elephants unhappy in an enclosure that can never mimic a real environment required for these majestic animals. It would also be a traumatic experience for them. Place Burma elsewhere, with a family that will accept her.

This is a terrible idea. I was involved in getting Jumbo the elephant out of the circus, and she is being rehabilitated now to be taken to a proper sanctuary, and then these clowns want to import an entire herd for entertainment and profit! Its disgraceful. Its far cheaper to have elephants protected in their natural habitat than it is to have them jailed in zoos, and the elephants are far happier in doing so. This is nothing less than life imprisonment. What a short sighted move by the Auckland zoo and city council. Hows OUR conservation going folks? Our Kiwi populations are taking a hammering. Oh wait there's no profits in Kiwi conservation I'm on totally the wrong page.
