There are 3 problems I see here. 1) A lot of stray cats are not owned, so getting them fixed wouldnt be that easy because in most cases, they flee when you try to approach them. The animal doesnt know the household owner and vice versa, and only goes there for food and shelter outside. 2) I have found that pet stores in Wellington (All Lower Hutt stores) sell kittens for around $150 (normal cats, not even a certain breed). I think if they needed them to be adopted out, they should be like some Auckland pet stores, where they are given to people who go in and want to take them for free. That, or lower the price. No wonder why there are so many cats/dogs without homes. 3) If you have a pet, its around $80 to desex them. Vets should lower the damn price or do it for free. These are innocent animals who "need" to be desexed. Not humans who "want" abortions. If abortions are free, make desexing free for animals.

I cannot understand how people don't have their cats (and dogs) fixed so that they don't have kittens. If you can't look after an animal - then don't get them!! People who abandon animals are the lowest of the low!
