Salasai’s nicely streamlined “Heartland” collection was a mix of wearable cowboy country-style fare and interesting colours, shapes and details.
The signature design for the show was zig-zag dark blue, burgundy, white and black patterned fabric which came in both silk and cotton and was used in both men’s and women’s wear.
Some of the clothes had almost an Amish feel, with women’s wear having high necks and mainly knee-length skirts, worn with head scarves, cowboy hats and accessories such as rosary beads and giant crucifix earrings.
The men’s clothes were very simple cuts and shapes, with t-shirts made of stiff shirt fabric in plain dark caramel brown, the zig-zag design, mauve and burgundy. Short-sleeved shirts came in a check pattern in either blue or red with black collars. These were often worn with navy or off-white low-crotch chinos.
The only men’s suit came in the caramel brown with black elbow patches and looked quite baggy.
The stylish women’s suits came in the caramel brown, the zig-zag design as well as a gorgeous bright lemon yellow. The quite loose-fitting suits were all double breasted with gold buttons and a low-lying lapel and had three-quarter length sleeves. Some had full-length silm trousers and others cropped.
Other trousers were full length in burgundy leather or skinny-legged made of the zig-zag fabric.
The women’s tops were all silk and chiffon. Blouses came in lemon yellow, cream and the zig zag pattern. Tops without buttons came in cream chiffon or the zig zag patterned silk, with little black bow-ties sewn on the front. There was also a midnight blue skinny-strapped top.
The women’s dresses were quite demure, all high necked and knee-length and came in silk and cotton versions of the zig-zag pattern, lemon yellow chiffon and two-tone red chiffon.
