A French woman has married her dead boyfriend after getting permission from President Nicolas Sarkozy.

Karen Jumeaux, 22, personally wrote to the president, who granted permission under an obscure French law that allows people to marry the deceased if it can be proved they were planning to marry before one of them died.

Anthony Mallet was killed in a car accident nearly two years ago. They had a son in 2009.

“I never wanted to do it alone, but fate decided otherwise," Jumeaux told The Daily Mail.

"Now I am his wife and I will always love him."

Clearly this is a tragic story and one's sympathy goes out to the wife/widow.However, it is surely ghoulish to marry a corpse. She can only cherish the memories of time spent together. The child too may well view his mother's marriage with mixed emotions.
