The family of a famous British TV presenter has removed the headstone from his grave in the wake of allegations that he was a serial rapist and paedophile.

Former Top of the Pops presenter Jimmy Savile, who died last year, has been described by police as a predatory sex offender who may have assaulted as many as 25 victims over a period of 40 years.

The family wanted to remove the memorial "out of respect for public opinion" after the police revealed they were investigating 120 lines of inquiry over sexual abuse, The Guardian reports.
