A car. A driveway. A toddler. Then, in one sickening instant, a catastrophe. You can't imagine anything more agonising than watching a child – your own child - fighting for life and being in that position because of something you had done. But it can happen to anyone.

Sam Cannon was in the wrong place at the wrong time and was run over in his driveway by his dad, former Australian rugby representative Brendan Cannon.

Sam suffered terrible injuries in that accident and came close to dying. Luckily, the little boy is every bit as tough as his famous dad.

Watch the video.

This was a very moving documentary, I felt the pain these parents are experiencing as this happened to our Whanau too.
I agree with Michelle's comment, very great idea of sounding the horn before moving the vehicle.

I was taught at my bus driving course about 8 years ago that before backing the bus to sound your horn and, depending on the environment (which may be at a school for example), to get out and and check behind the bus first. I used this method when I had my own small child and she learnt that when the horn went, the car will be on the move and to get out of the way quickly or scream loudly. She was never in the way but at least she was aware. People need to teach their children to be aware of vehicles on their own property because young children feel safe on their own turf and no harm will come to them. Maybe beeping the horn when backing "anywhere" could be added to the driving code.
