A fire originating in the horticultural area of Nayland College in Nelson is now under control.

The Fire Service say they received calls alerting them to the blaze around 6pm this evening and that they are continuing to dampen out hotspots.

No one was injured in the blaze and principal Rex Smith says it will not affect classes next week.

The Fire Service say it is too early to tell if the fire was suspicious or not.
