The lawyer acting for the man accused of murdering Feilding farmer Scott Guy has confirmed Ewen MacDonald will defend the charge.
He appeared in the Palmerston North District Court this morning, accused of shooting his brother-in-law at close range at the end of Mr Guy’s driveway last July. The pair were also business partners on the family farm.
MacDonald’s lawyer, Greg King, maintains his client is innocent.
“The charge will be defended,” he told the court.
All other matters relating to the case have been suppressed.
MacDonald has been remanded in custody until August 3.
The Guy family did not want to talk to reporters, but Mr Guy’s father Bryan said they have had better days.
It has been a harrowing week; the family has just returned from Tauranga, where the funeral for Jo and Bryan Guy’s nephew – Andy Marshall – was held.
Mr Marshall died after being pushed through a window on the second storey of a bar in Perth, earlier this month.
The Guys and the Marshalls grew up together in Feilding.
