Henderson police will today continue their search for a two-year-old who has not been seen since yesterday evening.

Asiling Symes is believed to have wandered away from a Longburn Road address at around 5.30pm yesterday.

A police search operation based at the Pomaria Road School, involving staff from police, fire, civil defence and neighbourhood volunteers, was stood down at around 2.15am this morning.

The team remained on stand-by throughout the early morning in case any information or sightings were received, and will continue their operation at 6am this morning.a

Police are appealing for any sightings of the girl, who is described as tall for her age, of European appearance, and with light brown hair.

When last seen, she was wearing a green parker jacket or ski jacket, blue jeans embroidered with flowers, and had white tennis shoes on her feet.

Residents are being asked to check their properties for Asiling, particularly sheds, out buildings, fence lines, or any area a small child may explore or hide in.

Anyone who was in, or near, Longburn Road in Henderson between 5.15 and 6.00 last evening is asked to contact the Henderson police station on (09) 839 0600.

In particular, police would like to hear from a young Asian woman who may have spoken to the toddler on Longburn Rd, around the time she was last seen.

They are still searching, one news said that if you want to join the search you are welcome to, if you are in the area even just to drive around, or check your own property, any areas a toddler may crawl into, that would be helpful. All we really can do until we get more information is to hope, pray and wait. Also keep an eye out for the Asian woman, she is the only lead the police have at the moment, and the family is hoping she took her home and just doesn't know who to call or what to do, maybe her english is not good, i'm really not sure. They couldn't find Aisling anywhere outside and they really did look, so I assume that means she is in someones house somewhere, we just have to hope that someone does the right thing and rings the police so she can be reunited with her family.
