Police divers have found no trace of an Auckland man last seen jumping from a bridge into the Waikato River.

Papatoetoe mechanic Hedley William (Bill) Pepler, 49, did not resurface after he was seen jumping 10m from a one-lane bridge near Rangiriri, north of Huntly, at 3pm on Wednesday.

The river was deep and fast flowing.

Divers searching the area had not found anything on Friday, police told New Zealand Newswire said on Friday.

They would resume their search for Mr Pepler on Saturday.

Poor visibility in the river has hampered searching, but police have said this may improve at the weekend when there is a lower demand for power, which could see hydro dams upstream close, lowering the water level.
