Local farmers were outbid for the Crafar farms by roughly $30 million.

Once the Overseas Investment Office approved the sale, the Government claims it had no choice but to let it go through.

But Prime Minister John Key insists that was not only the decision required by law, it was the right decision too.

Selling main assets. As a small country don't we want to be investing in other land that we can profit from taking power not giving it away. We are a strong and peaceful country and in the end will play a big part in the worlds economy and regrowth and our assets will help us get through what may be coming . Selling our land gives foreigners the option to enter our country as if you own the land you cant be told what you can and cant do with it. New Zealand is prime land and is very valuable . In the end for what purpose do we need to sell our prime land . When would we ever be able to buy it back in the end what would be the point ?

What I still don't understand is why the Crafar farms had to be sold all as one. In many land titles and many areas not like they are all linked together, why didn't the recievers split them? Personally I think the receivers had a hidden agenda, they certainly had plenty of time to sort it out in... by selling it this way they put the whole lot out of reach of most kiwis, which in that regards is a complete attack on kiwi values and holds nothing of what is 'best' for NZ. The government should have forced the farms to be split and auctioned off to the highest bidders with favourable options to NZers first.

Cheap skate 30 million is not enough, tripple that amount asking to three times 30 million is the right prize for any New Zealand farm if sold..
The Government is crabshits selling our land cheap to forigners..
Leased the bloody land or sell it on a higher prize other from that leave our country alone until such time the prize is right to meet its purposes.. This country is injured and suffered enough for anymore pullshits backhanders..

Public opinion will drive what John Key does about future sales. All politicians fear the loss of power and if the polls show falling support for the Government then Key will act to reverse the prospect of defeat at the 2014 elections.

Key is lying. (Again.) He know Parliament is sovereign and can past practically any law it wants to. They can even make laws retrospective. And if the Free Trade Agreement with China prevents Parliament from legislating - then this, in itself, is a crisis of our sovereignty and independence. But, no. Very little of what Key sez is believable. The man is a liar, end of story.

As reported there was a $100 grand payment made by the chinese, was this payment made for a favourable outcome of the crafar farms or was it a 'thank you' payment made to the national party coffers, investigation needed here.
We are now on a slippery slope of getting rid of precious
nz land on a vast scale, when many aspiring young kiwi farmers are having difficulty finding land to start a farming business.
The crafar farms represents an ignorance by govt to recognise nz equity and reliance on the nz ownership of
strategic farmland, this decision will go down in history
as another badly managed national controversy along with
a stream of actions bestowed on nz'ers that have destroyed
hope in all national party terms in office.
