Six month old Serenity Jay Scott was an advanced baby – she had learned to crawl early, impressing the Plunket nurse.
Then, three months ago, baby Serenity died from violent injuries.
Every five weeks in New Zealand, a child is killed by a family member.
Last year there were more than 21,000 confirmed cases of child abuse investigated by child, youth and family.
Sadly the story sounds familiar in other ways too.
Police have interviewed many people but no one has been charged over Serenity's death.
So what happened?
For the first time since her daughter's death, Serenity's mother Chelsea Scott and her partner Matt Ellery have talked to the media.
