A 39-year-old man has been charged following a serious assault in the Christchurch suburb of St Albans last night.
Police say a neighbour alerted them to the incident on Harold Denton Pl just before 11pm. They arrived to find the victim lying injured on the driveway.
The alleged offender was found nearby and arrested.
The 48-year-old victim was taken to hospital with serious head injuries, and his condition is described as stable.
Det Sgt Mark Reid says both men lived nearby.
The accused will appear in Christchurch District Court this morning.
