System of a Down rocker Serj Tankian’s latest album, Harakiri, is streaming for free on therock.net.nz.
The third solo album from Tankian was recorded at his home studio in Los Angeles.
“I used the Apple iPad as a songwriting instrument to sketch out three of the songs on the record,” says Tankian.
“We must trick ourselves into writing in different ways to get unexpected results.”
Tankian explains that the album title, which means ritualistic suicide in Japanese, is reflective of how he sees the human species eradicating themselves on a large scale.
“The record is different than any I've made as a solo artist,” says Tankian.
“It is much more driving and punk oriented with influences ranging from goth to electronic to ‘80s vibes, dynamically heavy rock to epic melodic songs.
“Lyrically, it spans the gauntlet of themes from personal, political and philosophical to spiritual, humour and love.”
The album is released later this week - listen to Serj Tankian’s Harakiri in full on therock.net.nz.
