A little African American puppet isrocking the ratings this week on YouTube (and no, it's not Obama).
'I Love My Hair' is the creation of Sesame Street's head writer Joseph Mazzarino and features a smallAfrican American girl puppet with tight frizzy curls celebrating her afro.
The video has received almost a million views on YouTube, and teaches positive self-image in the unique Sesame Streetbouncy-happy-dance singing style that never seems to get old.
Mazzarino wrote the script for his four-year-old, Ethiopian-born, adopted daughter Segi, who wanted to have longblonde hair like her Mum - and Barbie.
The bopping brown Muppet is Sesame Street's Elmo puppeteer Kevin Clash, and the song is voiced by the Broadway Lion King's 'Nala', Chauncey Johnson.
"Don't need a trip to the beauty shop, 'cause I love what I got on top - it's curly and it's brown and it'sright up there. You know what I love? My hair!"
Personally, it doesn't knock 'C is for Cookie' by His Awesomeness The Cookie Monster off my number one list, but the song is all happiness and sunshine, and guaranteed to make you smile.
So far the little Muppet girl has no name, but after the viral video success, Mazzarino plans to further develop the character and introduce her to some new friends over at Sesame Street.
