LATEST RESULTS:    Samoa 33 - Argentina 13, Wales 19 - Niue 5, Scotland 34 - Papua New Guinea 5, USA 15 - Tonga 7, Canada 21 - France 19, New Zealand 49 - Niue 5, Australia 24 - Scotland 7, Fiji 41 - Papua New Guinea 0, Kenya 24 - USA 7.

New Zealand have made a convincing start to their Wellington Sevens campaign with a convincing 29-5 win over Wales.

Sherwin Stowers ran in the first of two of New Zealand’s five trys, both on the left wing early in the first half.

Ben Souness touched down next and then had a hand in the next try at the beginning of the second half when his captain DJ Forbes scored.

New Zealand were unable to prevent Wales crossing the line when Lloyd Jones scored with a nice individual effort, before Nafi Tuitavake gave New Zealand the last word with the final try.

New Zealand play Niue and South Africa later tonight.

In other matches today Fiji, England and Australia made emphatic starts to the tournament.

Australia were too good for Papua New Guinea in their opening Pool B match winning 31-12.

The Fijians beat Scotland 36-5, while last year’s champions English thrashed the United States 31-7.

Canada made the early upset of the day when they defeated Argentina 26-7.

In other matches today Kenya beat Tonga 17-5 and Samoa beat France 31-19.
