One man has been killed as heavy rain and strong winds hit Fiji again today.

Losefo Sugu, 26, of Waivola Settlement in Korovou drowned while bathing in a nearby river, Fiji TV reports.

Last week six people were killed and more than 3,000 forced into welfare shelters because of flooding.

The new storm is now hitting the country and another is set to follow. The Met Service is expecting flooding in low lying areas.

The Disaster Management Office (Dismac) is urging people in low lying areas to be prepared to evacuate.

Dismac suggests "go bags" be readied with water, batteries, a change of clothes, matches, dry food, a small knife, a torch and 24 hours worth of canned food.

Evacuation centres around the centre of Nadi and Lautoka have been reopened.
