Brothels in Christchurch may face strict regulations as new bylaws are considered.

The red light district in the central city has been inaccessible since the February quake and Christchurch City Council wants to address any potential issues as brothels relocate to other areas.

Council spokesman Alan Bywater says one consideration will be signage advertising the services on offer.

Residents will be able to have their say in the New Year.
