New Zealand freestyle motocross star Levi Sherwood has become the youngest rider to win the lucrative Red Bull X-Fighters Tour.

Sherwood, 20, headed off arch rival Thomas Pages of France in the final Tour event in Sydney on Saturday to claim the prize of $NZ1.3 million

The pair were tied for first on 235 points heading into the event and predictably squared off in the final.

Pages blew his chances when he fell on landing one of his jumps early in the final.

That left Sherwood needing little more than a clean ride to snare the title, which he provided, winning in all five categories - variety, execution, style, course and energy.

"All I came here to do was to try to clinch up a championship," Sherwood said.

"I knew beating Thomas was going to be really difficult. He definitely made it a challenge, and to come here for another win is amazing."

Sherwood lodged wins in three of the six events this year, including the Dubai event in April and the Madrid leg in July.

Levi, We are in our 70's and have followed the events this year. Loved the event at the bull ring in Spain. To see you hoisted shoulder high and taken around the bull ring with the fireworks going was great. Sydney was awesome, you sure are a talented rider. Enjoy your fame that is well deserved. wOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT YOU AND YOUR GROUP DO BETWEEN EVENTS. Look forward to 2013 good luck for that. Murray Deaker would love to interview you, but hasn't been able to as yet. Hope Thomas and the other lad that came off are ok. Enjoy your stay at home. Regards Dawn and Norm.
