I know for a fact that people only will shoplift if they know from experience that they wont get caught. it is easy to spot a shoplifter but no'one has the guts to do anything about it. Shops should hire ex-shoplifters to spot shoplifter as they have experience and know alot more than any expert about the matter

Katrina is observant. Editing does do tricks to continuety. But many people who steal dont sell to others, they are simply greedy and selfish. When they say I was trying to feed the kids, why do they have make up or coffee etc? People do steal very large items from stores, including trolley loads of goods from supermarkets. So Katrina, we do agree on a few things you have said.

First let me say that I don't condone theft of any kind. I was surprised at the expert's response when he was asked if people are shoplifting out of need/desperation. He said no because he's never seen people steal a loaf of bread or a bottle of milk. Well, duh, of course not! How the hell do you shove a loaf of bread down your pants?! Also, bread and milk are relatively cheap items compared with the smaller, easier to conceal 'high ticket' items like cosmetics and razor blades. I would have thought this was obvious, especially to an 'expert', it's just commonsense. Furthermore, I would venture to guess that less shoplifting would take place if Foodstuffs and Progressive Enterprises weren't shafting the entire population every second of every day at the checkout.

But what about the theft from within? Our supermarket - the only one in our little town - has been helping itself to their clients money by overcharging time and again. We have to check their dockets every single time to make sure we are not ripped off. Easier for people who shop often and a few things at the time but what about young parents with huge trolley loads??? After a long battle things are improving but all the same - what does it say about the management of this supermarket?
