Police are appealing for witnesses after gunshots were fired at a home in Masterton.

Several shots were fired into the house on Miriam Street just before 9pm last night, acting Detective Sergeant Mike Smith says. The shots entered the walls of two bedrooms at the front of the house.

"It's concerning for police that occupants were home at the time and one bedroom is used by children," he said.

A person was in one of the bedrooms at the time and the children were not in their bedroom.

It is believed a vehicle was involved in the attack.
