Should Martyn Payne have been deported?

Martyn Payne came to New Zealand from the UK, invested more than $700k in a garage, employed locals and turned it into a thriving business. He as deported last week because Immigration believes he may have heart problems in the future. Martyn says he will pay his own medical expenses if he can stay and believes Immigration has treated him like a criminal. What do you think?

Mr. Payne has offered to pay his own expenses regarding his
medical condition. He is a contributing member of the society, with a supportive family unit.
Let Martyn Payne stay.

It appears this unfortunate Englishman is a good man, but if the rules say he shouldn't get residence, then he shouldn't . It's that simple. How many other immigrants got chucked out but were great neighbours or community members, with not so much brouhaha ?Safe guess is many. Rules are rules and should be applied without fear or favour.

I am horrified that someone like Mr Payne can be kicked out the country. He has contributed taxes, employment, spending and growth in his community. His taxes paid the ministers salary - a darn sight more than some local natural kiwis. He has brought his family here in good faith! He should at least be refunded his taxes as they obviously counted for nothing - similar to a non-disclosure in insurance. If someone is deemed to have non-disclosed and the insurance underwriters deem that they would have never offered insurance, then the full premiums can be refunded. And talk about doublesided!!! We have let in 70 year olds that will never pay taxes, never work and yet within 18 months of arriving, full medical treatment is offered for a myriad of serious health concerns - no payment necessary. As a taxpayer, hardworking kiwi - I would very much like to know what the heck is going on in immigration!!!

I am appalled at his treatment when we have such dubious types coming in . I live up here where Martyn built up a struggling business , employed local people and was a friendly, chatty guy. Am I outraged ? You bet !

Just when one thought politicians couldn't make more stupid decisions than the recent ACC debacle, we have this: It's evidence they can't learn. Only if we the voting public can remember, and especially the true blue National supporters realize these people don't deserve your vote. How can any one vote for heartless, stupid, but mostly ignorant people.
I doubt Martyn Payne is the only one, and I really doubt this govt isn't the most corrupt one New Zealand has ever had. The only way Martyn can gain permanent residence will be if enough of us write to the immigration minister, pointing out what will happen next election!
Unless we can change his mind, I will feel ashamed of being a NZ'er.
OTOH one can feel proud by helping to keep Martyn Payne here!

Immigration needs an overall sanity check. We, the people, make the government. we can change it as well if government does not listen to its makers. Someone has to take responsibility from the immigration department or the government.

I sent the following by email to the Immigration Ministers Dear National MP's and Immigration Ministers What is going on with your Department and their idiotic decision to refuse entry to Martin Payne. We need hard working immigrants to be welcomed to our country to help us grow our economy. This man has contributed to his local community in Northland and to the country as a whole. He employs people, pays taxes and has integrated into his community. His health has not been a problem since he has been here and anyway he is already paying towards health care with his taxes etc. The Department has allowed his family to stay in NZ but not him and have effectively broken up a family unit. But the Department has no problem allowing in people who contribute nothing but trouble. We have all seen the news stories and many of us know of immigrants, some refugees, who live here, do not integrate, do not work and are a complete drain on the public purse and will be so for much longer than the lifespan of Mr Payne. Plus the Department allows the extended families of these non contributors to also come and live here and add to the burden. Where is the commonsense in the decision by the Department? Why cant they show some of the human compassion that we used to be known for. Come on National, you say you want the best for NZ and to grow the economy and encourage everyone to have a go and make society better. This decision is nonsense and if you want to retain the voting public you need to intervene and change this now.

So, the Govt wasn't prepared to carry his medical costs, but had no problem accepting his regular tax payments...talk about a one-sided deal
