3News - Commonwealth Games boss Mike Hooper

Should some Games blame lie with Hooper?

Murray McCully has said the Kiwi in charge of the Commonwealth Games should share some of the blame for the hygiene and security problems this week. Do you agree with this?

The Media needs to do a soul search exercise. The drive to improve the ratings has sabotaged everything sacred, social relations, diplomacy; they do it to the Fijians, the Samoans, the Indians, and slowly building up momentum to self destruct the RWC.

It is ugly!

Sounds like Mike was in over his head... I wonder if he was actually qualified to do the job, or could he be NZ's answer to Steven Wilce? Did anyone check his CV??

hmm 36 thousand dollors for monthly accommodation rental, a limousine and 11 assistant's. Sound's like a King and his palace. Not sure if he is to be blamed, but I feel there are still few thing's which are not being completely revealed!! If we Kiwis are so concerned about India hiding it poor, was this expenditure really necessary??

Murray McCully is New Zealand's version of Neville Chamberlain, and a dope. His accusations against Hooper are simply designed to placate an Indian Government emabarrased at its failure to get the CG ready in time. Hooper may not be blameless but as has already been pointed out India is full of corruption and he can hardly be blamed for that.

In all regards: All the Warning Bells showed and stated clearly over the past 2 years, that leading up to the development of the CG in question, that issues of Compliancy of those Organizations dual responsabilities fell way short of the Standards of Compliance required on all sides

Whether or not Mike Hooper did a good job is not the point, his role was to oversee the games preparation, which are entirely the responsibility of India. Blaming him is like blaming a policeman for a crime or a teacher for a truant - whether he could have prevented it or not, he is the one who committed the crime. So the most Mike Hooper can be charged with is hopeless oversight. It was not his job, his responsibility and he did not promise to deliver the games, so the blame cannot lie at his feet

Once again the Little Fat Controller has waded into something he knows nothing about. He only comes out with these comments so as to appease the corrupt Indian Society who he wants a trade partnership with. Typical of this Government, back corruption over a citizen of the country.

As a representitive of NZ and the CFCE: yes he should be held accountable to clarify the issues of the developing and development process in regards to the overall organization to which he was responsable for and to the IOC

If McCully had bothered to follow the problems of the games organization over the last couple of years, he would be aware that Mike Hooper has been fighting an impossible battle against the corruption, incompetence, and intransigence of the Indian "organizers". Kalmadi even tried to get him deported because he was pushing too hard to try and get the venues completed on time. That the games have not been abandoned or relocated is largely due to the efforts that Hooper has put in over this time.
