The Tasman district is bracing itself for a downpour just two weeks after heavy rain caused severe flooding and slips.
Nelson's state of emergency has been lifted, but the fear is more bad weather's on its way.
However mayor Richard Kempthorne says there could be a silver lining.
"If we get a moderate amount of rain it will probably be quite helpful because it wash some of the silt away.
"A torrential downpour could be problematic, but the indications are that that's not going to occur."
The state of emergency was lifted yesterday.
